JUDGES 19

If you haven’t read Judges chapter 19, I highly suggest that you read it. If you have read it, it is vital that you re-read it, and do more in-depth research for the truth of this story. It is a very sad, and horrible tale of a Levite who saved himself, and sacrificed his concubine. This poor woman was given over to vile, ungodly men who gang-raped her all night long – to death.

Before I provide the links to this tragedy, I would like to express my opinion on the matter. I believe the Bible with all of my heart, and I love God with all of my heart. When there are disagreements concerning the Word of God, the errors are not with God, but man. I also believe that God allows the recording of horrible acts of men for our understanding of how cruel mankind can really be. Especially when men choose to govern their own lives, and reject the Wise Counsel of the Holy Bible. I am speaking of both male and female here.

…………………………………….

Without God, or government, there can be nothing but evil and chaos. During the time of Judges 19, the Bible says, it was a time when “there was no king in Israel” and “people did what was right in their own eyes” (Judges 17:6). Hhhmmm, sounds much like today doesn’t it? People are committing all kinds of hellish acts, doing what the want to do with no regards to God, humanity, or consequences.

I am posting this story, for it relates to domestic violence and abuse. When you read the links, it is my prayer that your eyes of understanding will be enlightened. In many translations of the Bible and commentaries, the concubine in this story was a “harlot.”

…………………………………….

There are translations and commentaries to the contrary. She was a woman, second wife, whom her husband had little regard for. The husband and the old man in this story are both guilty of not protecting the woman close to them – daughters, and a wife.

I am sure that many readers of this biblical account will conclude that women are not valued by God, and therefore, not valued by men. I choose to believe that God in His infinite Wisdom was showing us just how base we could become without Him. Many women today are treated like second-class citizens, beaten and mistreated as if God does not see or care. Wrong! The Bible proves this the husband cared nothing about his wife, her safety, or well-being. He was ok with handing his wife over to the perverts that originally wanted to have sex with him – to save his own skin. Not only that, the next morning as she lay dead at the door, my goodness – his calloused heart exposed:

…………………………………….

27 When her husband opened the door to leave, there lay his concubine with her hands on the threshold. 28 He said, “Get up! Let’s go!” But there was no answer. So he put her body on his donkey and took her home.

29 When he got home, he took a knife and cut his concubine’s body into twelve pieces. Then he sent one piece to each tribe throughout all the territory of Israel.
