I have witnessed people drink to the point of what we called "catching the
rams." This person would be so drunk that they were not in their right minds anymore. This one guy that was dating a friend
of mine "caught the rams," and started beating holes in the wall at his house.
He was angrily punching the walls, knuckles bleeding, and he wasn't hearing
anything that was said to him. The only way that he was stopped, was to be held down by stronger men than himself. He eventually
passed out while being restrained. The next day he had no clue as to what he had done.

Many abusers go on violent rampages under the influence of alcohol. Intoxication
can make one do things that fills their lives with regrets. The bible says:
"Wine is a mocker, strong drink is a brawler. And whoever is intoxicated
by it is not wise" (Proverbs 20:1).
King James Version: "Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whoever
is deceived by it is not wise."

"Wine is a mocker and beer a brawler. It smiles on him at first, but at the
last it bites. It rages in his conscience. It is raging in the body. When the wine is in the wit is out, and then the man,
according as his natural temper is, either mocks like a fool or rages like a madman. Drunkenness, which pretends to be a sociable
thing, renders men unfit for society. A drunkard is a fool, and a fool he likely to be." 1
Alcohol is one of Satan's tools of destruction. The book of Wisdom warns
of becoming partakers and shows the results:
"Who has woe? Who has sorrow? Who has contentions? Who has
complaining? Who has wounds without cause? Who has redness of eyes? Those who linger long over wine, Those who
go to taste mixed wine. Do not look on the wine when it is red, When it sparkles in the cup, When it goes down smoothly; At
last it bites like a serpent And stings like a viper. Your eyes will see strange things And your mind will utter
perverse things, And you will be like one who lies down in the middle of the sea, Or one who lies down on top of
a mast. They struck me, but I did not become ill; They beat me, but I did not know it. When shall I awake? I will
seek another drink."
(Proverbs 23:29-35)

My family had woe, and sorrow upon sorrows. There was much strife, contention and violence. All of the kids that I grew
up with who suffered along with us had many complaints. The drunkards would often fall and hurt themselves, later to claim
that someone pushed them.
Their eyes were always red, they weren't sober long enough for the whites of their eyes to be white again. They lingered
over cheap wine, drank corn liquor, beer and alcohol of any kind; they were bitten by the serpent.

Seemingly calm personalities turned violent and mean, showing a side of them that laid dormant in sobriety. The strange
things that they saw were little girls that looked like women in their stupor. Little girls that were molested and raped before
they even knew how to count to 100.
Their minds uttered perverse things that became biting words, verbal abuse, damaging names they could not take back. Sometimes
the drunkards were beaten, and they didn't feel a thing. Their bruises showed evidence of the violence, but they didn't feel
it.
They just kept coming back for more, stumbling, unbalanced, and senseless. When the morning came, they sought a remedy
for their hangover, another drink.

NOTE: There is
no documented evidence that consuming alcohol causes domestic violence. In fact, there are alcoholics that do not abuse their
partners at all.
However, when tempers flair and alcohol consumption is present, more than
likely, those who have violent natures will use drunkeness as an excuse for abuse. They act out what Proverbs calls their
"natural tempers."
So, if an abuser says he abused because "he was drunk," alcohol is his excuse
to hide behind, and to take focus away from the issue that he has an abuse problem-PERIOD!
